With the stretch of time that I have come to call “birthday season” having now kicked off with one of my niece’s birthdays I have to be careful what I post about and when. It is now safe to post about my latest efforts.
I was somewhat stumped on what I could make for my niece this year. One day I was searching around for ideas and I came across some clocks that someone had made here. It seemed like and interesting idea but I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it until I remembered a certain piece of wood that I had in the shop.
The wood was some arbutus wood that I could not bring myself to get rid of but had some serious cracks that presented a challenge. I thought that it would be good for this project though. I stabilized it with bit a of glue, picked a few clock parts and put it on the lathe to see what I could come up with. When I was picking up the clock parts I forgot things like numbers and markers and so rather than leave the face blank I decided to experiment a bit with some wood burning. I’m fairly happy with the end result.
