Design opportunity

A few months ago I was making a batch of travel mugs out of wood. On one of them I realized after I had finished it that I had made the walls too thin in one spot and that it would never stand up to any use. I could not quite bring myself to scrap it and start over so for several months that mug sat there. I would look at it trying to come up with ideas to save it and wind up thinking that sooner or later I would have to bite the bullet and start over with it.

Recently though I had a stroke of inspiration and thought of a way to make use of this design opportunity that I had been presented with. I found some casting resin at Michaels and realized that this is what I needed to make things works. What I did was I cut out the thin area of the mug and then drilled a series of other holes. I then glued coffee beans inside of the holes and then used the casting resin to fill everything in before turning it again. Overall I am quite pleased with the result and I am thinking about doing another one but with a little more planning in advance this time.
